SUMMARY:Compassion in Action: from Empathy to Impact
DESCRIPTION:Every two years Compassionate DFW hosts a gathering to share expertise\, experience\, and practices of compassion. This year’s theme is Compassion in Action: From Empathy to Impact. \nOur goal is to increase awareness of the critical importance of the value of compassion. Even more than awareness\, we seek to embrace intentional compassion and to stimulate compassionate action in every sector of society. We are creating a world where the Golden Rule\, caring for others as we care for ourselves\, is the norm\, the guiding principle in all actions and activities. The Compassion Conference is designed to convene thinkers and doers to learn\, practice\, and grow\, to exercise our compassion muscles together so we can put them to work creating a world where everyone thrives. \n \n

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Mayor's Week of Compassionate Service
DESCRIPTION:Here is our call to action from Fort Worth Mayor\, Betsy Price:\nI would like to announce the Third Annual Mayor’s Week of Compassionate Service\, January 27 – February 4\, 2018. I am calling on families\, business leaders\, faith institutions\, non-profits\, neighborhoods\, schools and individuals from across Tarrant County to create\, organize and initiate volunteer projects of your choice. \nCitizens can volunteer to give a day\, or even an hour to demonstrate tangible acts of compassion. Everyone can do something! Go to http://www.MayorsWeekOfService.com for more information and to register your participation in making Fort Worth a more compassionate city. \nDuring the Second Annual Mayor’s Week of Compassionate Service\, individual families\, businesses both small and large\, non-profits\, faith institutions\, neighborhoods and schools across Tarrant County created\, organized and initiated 105 different activities designed to show compassion across our city. This time\, we are aiming for at least 200 different compassion activities. \nEmpowered by the Golden Rule\, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you\,” 1594 volunteers served our community during the last Week of Service\, and this time\, we are aiming for at least 3000 volunteers. \nAs Fort Worth’s Mayor\, this outpouring of compassion encourages me and reaffirms my belief that the best part about Fort Worth is its people! I hope to see this spirit of compassion continue to thrive across our city. \nIn 2014\, the Fort Worth City Council signed the International Charter for Compassion\, designating Fort Worth as a Compassionate City. I believe that actions motivated by the Golden Rule will help us become an even greater and more compassionate city. Several members of the Mayor’s Faith Leaders Network steward our city towards Building Bridges for a More Compassionate Fort Worth\, built on the three values of Volunteerism\, Unity and Abundance. \nI would like to thank our Compassionate Fort Worth Committee Members: Rev. Tim Woody\, Father Stephen Jasso\, Rabbi Andrew Bloom\, Rev. Sultan Cole\, and Brent Peterson for their hard work and dedicated service. \nAdditional information is available on our Facebook Page\, Compassionate Fort Worth. \nSincerely\, \nBetsy Price\nMayor

SUMMARY:In Search of Justice: Mexican American History Is American History
DESCRIPTION:Our final program for 2016 will add another dimension of our general theme for 2016\, “Owning Violence: Affirming Nonviolence.” Dr. Roberto Calderón\, an expert on Texas-Mexican history\, will bring our focus to the Texas Mexican population. \nAs we have learned about the lived experience of African Americans\, American Indians\, and Muslims in our society\, this presentation will deepen our understanding of the experience of Mexicans as a perceived “other.” We will continue to try to take an unflinching look at ourselves in relation to those who are different from us. Together\, from the perspective of our respective cultures and faith traditions\, we will reflect on the varied forms of violence in relation to the Mexican population – overt and subtle – and how we can with greater clarity and consistency truly be people of nonviolence. \nDr. Roberto Calderón is Associate Professor of History\, University of North Texas. His primary academic interest is in American Mexican history and he has a deep understanding of the history of Mexicans in Texas. \nMore about Dr. Calderón is available by clicking on this link:\nhttp://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=ffaqd8cab&oeidk=a07ede5x4nf80282d0b
